Mariam Malament: A story of a tooth: From a restoration to an implant. Which one is complication free?

  • Canopy Hotel 9 Center Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

The shift towards minimally invasive dentistry is obvious. The goal is to preserve as much of the tooth structure as possible and extend pulpal vitality. Another noticeable switch in restorative dentistry is metal-free restorations. These tooth-colored restorations must survive in demanding multi-factorial oral conditions. The presentation will overview the findings of clinical studies on the survival of, and endodontic complications of glass ceramic complete and partial coverage restorations. Additionally, the presentation will address the decision-making process of replacing teeth with implants. What should a clinician expect with implant-retained restorations and how can the complications be minimized will also be discussed.

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • To identify the factors determining long-term successful outcome of ceramic restorations.

  • Assess the incidence of endodontic therapy after receiving either complete or partial coverage glass ceramic restorations.

  • To evaluate the clinical variables influencing the incidence of endodontic therapy in prosthodontic treatment.

  • To review the possible complications associated with implant retained restorations.
