Gingival recession defects and mucogingival deformities are common periodontal findings in the general population. Successful management of cases may look different based on varying clinical presentations, including: presence of bone loss, keratinized tissue width, extent of existing gingival recession defects, and presence of non-carious cervical lesions. Additionally, the management of soft-tissue deficiencies both prior to and after implant placement often entails a combined restorative and surgical approach in order to achieve ideal esthetic results. This session will provide a practical and comprehensive overview of soft-tissue management strategies at both teeth and implants.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental goals, benefits, and limitations of soft tissue grafting

  • Identify mucogingival deformities at teeth and implants and determine when surgical intervention is indicated – and when it is not.

  • Explore interdisciplinary treatment planning and sequencing strategies to optimize esthetic outcomes.
