Development of a Novel Mineral-Organic Bone Adhesive with Osteopromotive Potential for Implant Dentistry

Course Description:

LaunchPad Medical is developing a high-strength, injectable bone adhesive called TetraniteÒ, which was co-invented by the Company Founders, CEO (Brian Hess) and CSO (George Kay, DMD, MMSc). This material is synthetically made from a mineral-organic composite, self-setting, non-exothermic, and develops high strength bonds to living bone and metal surfaces within a few minutes.  Not only does this technology have immediate and persistent load-bearing strength, bonding to the bone as well as to metal, but it also is resorbed and replaced one-for-one with new bone over the course of several months.  The use of this novel and unique material will open the field of regenerative and restorative dentistry to much improved options.  It will reduce the duration and complexity of dental implant procedures, allow for less invasive surgeries, will allow to combine procedures within a single visit, and will improve patient outcomes by reducing pain, recovery time, and the overall cost of care.  The Company has initiated clinical trials for its lead indication, which is to provide instant implant stabilization for the immediate placement and possibly early loading of dental implants into bony sites that otherwise lack mechanical support. The second product will be formulated to more quickly resorb while maintaining volume and will be indicated for complicated and larger volume of bone grafting cases, initially in dentistry and oral surgery and later for orthopedics. The Company plans to introduce its first products to implant dentists through training events with known and respected dental speakers which the company has started to identify.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Review of current bone grafting technology exploring key features and differentiated attributes,
  • Pre-clinical evidence of the clinically desirable characteristics of Tetranite.
  • Proposed clinical utility and testing,
  • Future implant dentistry products and indications (ridge augmentation, sinus lift, other bone augmentation and fracture fixation)
